Jelina Haines is a graduating PhD student in Information Studies at the School of Information Technology & Mathematical Sciences, University of South Australia. Her research interests are positioned at the intersection of Video Ethnography, participatory approach, and dialogic social interaction. Haines doctoral research aimed at the archival and preservation of traditional indigenous knowledge by the ethical recording of their stories. Jelina is a nominee for 2019 SA Australian of the Year Awards Local Hero. Her knowledge and skills excelled both in academics and in the arts field.
 

In the academic field, she accumulated accolades ranging from 'Information Behaviour Conference Poster Award', 'Winner Student Digital Poster Competition (1 minute)', '2nd Place - UniSA Visualise Your Thesis 2018 Competition in 60 seconds', 'People's Choice Best Poster 2018','First Prize Winner - 2017 Images of Research: Engaged Research, Enterprising Researcher Photography Competition & 'Bronze Award- 2017 Emotive Portraits Category'.
 

In the arts field, Jelina was presented the Advantage South Australian Regional Awards - Arts Category Glass Trophy and Glass plaque in honour of her outstanding contribution to the creative industries and as a professional visual artist in South Australia. At the international level, her artworks are held in the public collection at LeHarve Museum, France, National Gallery Australia, and South Australian Museum. Her wearable arts are privately collected in Australia, UK, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Japan, Egypt, Johannesburg, Russia, Sweden, Malta, Taiwan,  China, France, and the Philippines. Her creative mind extends to her love of cooking, the social memory of interaction, and cultural values associated with food. In this latter area, she co-founded the Ngarrindjeri Eco Art Coop with the Elders. She worked with the group voluntarily as a Project Arts Manager, Mentor, Cultural liaison, and Arts Instructor. She has spent more than 20 years working with the Indigenous community at Camp Coorong in South Australia.
