Eco, Solar & Rust Dyeing

Date: 14 – 18 January 2012 (Sat –Wed), 5 days Textile Arts Residential Workshop

Host Venue: Camp Coorong, Meningie South Australia, 3 hours drive from Adelaide CBD. You have to make your own way to our host venue.

This workshop is focus on making a contribution to reduce our carbon footprints, using rusted found objects or you bring your own specific or favorite rusted iron objects (rust dyeing), collected plants (eco dyeing) and cut stencil patterns for solar dyeing. As this workshop is a short notice therefore fabrics materials are included on the cost. I only have 5 places available.

About Ngarrindjeri Eco Art Co-op (NEAC)

Ngarrindjeri Eco Art Co-Op (NEAC) is co-founded by Ngarrindjeri Land & Progress Association (NLPA) and Innovative Art in Textiles (IAT) and was founded in 2010. NEAC is run collaboratively by the manager - teacher- artist (Jelina Haines) and NLPA.

NEAC is endeavoring to implement an artist- run initiatives where active members are responsible for the running of its creative endeavour and sustaining its community art projects. It employs a responsive focus group to develop, facilitate and implement a sustainable community eco - arts projects designed to bring hope, increase community participation, prosperity and new revenue possibilities for NEAC members and family.

We are holding a fundraising for our Indigenous emerging artists at Camp Coorong to continue their arts training, professional development and also be able to send them to Japan for cross -cultural exchange next year. Any financial assistance will be much appreciated. Also for those donating more than $AU50.00 will be rewarded by original hand made silk scarf design, authenticated and signed by Jelina Haines.

Ngarrindjeri Cross - Cultural Study Awareness 2012

Event: Ngarrindjeri Cross - Cultural Study Awareness 2012
Date: 06 - 10 September 2012
Cost: $450.00 - due on 10 August 2012 (includes entries to all programs, courtesy transfer, food and accommodation).

Ngarrindjeri Cross -Cultural Study Awareness’ is aimed to give participants a unique experience and be part of the Ngarrindjeri Community at the Coorong . This program aims to offer International and Australian participants a global perspective of cross - cultural understanding. Furthermore, this event aims to provide opportunities for individuals from different cultural backgrounds to share their traditions with the Coorong Ngarrindjeri community thereby strengthening community commitment, enhancing community participation and developing mutual respect. Visual language presentation is intertwined with culture and tradition. A better understanding of information continuity and by working side by side with Indigenous Knowledge and Science means that we can move forward to a better future and meet the needs of our future generations. This workshop/conference is significantly beneficial to in particularly to International and Australian students who wants to establish cross- cultural study exchange, and uniting students worldwide through hands on training.

Activities includes:
‘Welcome to Country’ Smoking Ceremony, Boomerang and Spear Throwing lessons, welcome night traditional dance lesson at Bonney Reserve or Long Point Island Conservation Park by Uncle Moogy Sumner, focus lessons such as Basket Weaving, Bush Walking where you will be guided by Uncle Tom and Malcolm Haines , Field trips - visits to significant Ngarrindjeri sites, a tour of the museum where you will be introduced to aspects of Ngarrindjeri history, tradition, culture, political history and Environmental Art where you learn to use found objects and sustainable art materials & fabric dyes to design your own artwork - proving you that fashion and sustainable living must co-exist, and if the night sky at Camp Coorong is clear - star gazing using the telescope; learning about the Milky Way -Ngurunderi’s Canoe.

Proceeds raise from this event will allow Ngarrindjeri Eco Art Co- Op (NEAC) to extend its art programming by offering affordable art workshops for the wider community especially those who cannot afford. Innovative art in Textiles (IAT) was established in 2008 and is run as non -proprietary business based in South Australia. The business provide arts mentorship, art curatorial and exhibition management, arts product marketing and arts & craft event management, women's business development through art creations, arts workshop and training.

The company sales its own limited collections of wearable textile art products and accessories. The company also accepts community specific arts project public and private commissions and have been involved in various instigated community arts project locally and global arts project collaboration. Upcoming Textile Art Workshop 2012

14 - 18 April 2012 (Sat—Wed)- Shibori & Indigo
workshop fee $395.00 per person (materials, food, instruction booklet & accommodation)

For the beginners,you will explore various techniques of traditional and contemporary design of Japanese Indigo and Shibori. For the advance participants you will challenge yourself by experimenting your own design of Shibori and Indigo techniques and challenge yourself by designing your own outfit.

07— 11 July (Sat— Wed) - Workshop fee $395.00 per person (materials, food, instruction booklet & accommodation).

Textile Art Printmaking: we will explore screen-printing, lino, relief printing & marbling.

This workshop is focus on learning various techniques of printmaking on textiles, you are encourage to draw and plan your own design, cutting your own stencil for screen-printing, cutting your design in lino, stenciling and relief printing.

23 - 26 Sept 2012 (Sun – Wed ) -Nuno Felting & Dry Felting
Workshop Fee $395.00 per person (materials, food, instruction booklet & accommodation)

This workshop is focus on learning how to make 3D felted vessels or hats, wearable felted garments,& accessories. You will also learn on how 3D objects using the techniques of needle dry felting.

Workshop Fee needs to be paid in full 2 months ahead prior to the events start. This will allow the organizers to prepare the venue and necessary materials needed for each workshop.
